ALANA HOLLOWAY
ABOUT ALANA HOLLOWAY:
Alana and I have a shared love for holistic health, which stresses the importance of taking all factors of someone’s life into consideration, when offering up advice. Her businesses successfully reflect this approach. For those hoping to incorporate fermented food into their diet, she has created has created something for everyone.
I initially met Alana at one of her workshops, which are perfect for those that love to cook and engross themselves in the process. Unfortunately, she realised that those who attended these workshops, although with the best of intentions, were not always going on to ferment at home. Not to worry, Alana was there to save the day with her fantastic products that achieve the same results with a click of a finger. Fermented by L.A.B. Is a delivery service that provides affordable and delicious products and monthly packages made up of a diverse selection of ferments - ready to use!
Aside from Fermented by L.A.B. and her workshops, she also has a blog, ‘Fodder + Plonk’, where she shares her knowledge in a way that allows people to transform their health one step at a time. From Kombucha to Cross Fit, the advice provided is comprehensive but relatable – we all know how drastic it can be to change your lifestyle, especially for the better.
I’m so excited to see how her business develops and am I’m sure we’ll be finding her ferments in stores soon enough.

How would your greatest friend describe you in 3 words?
Late. Reliable (and reliably late!) Ditsy!
What has been the biggest drama while creating Fermented by LAB?
Making 30kg of fermented cauliflower only to find out a week later that I'd forgotten to put salt in (easily done when tired and overworked!) and the whole batch had gone off!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In 5 years time, I hope to have a team of lovely, passionate people working in a healthy, balanced environment surrounded by lots of greenery! The least business-like answer EVER!
Do you have any gut friendly tips that are part of your daily routine?
At the moment, the thing that effects the health of my gut is STRESS!! So I'm working really hard to reduce it. Yoga, breath work and essential oils are my go-to's. And learning to ENJOY life and not get bogged down with work!
Where do you see the future for Gut Health awareness in the UK?
I'm HOPING it will work it's way into mainstream care and in to hospitals and GP surgeries (although I'm not sure that will happen and there's no money for Big Pharma to earn from it... yet!)
